jesus loves you and he cares for you

If you've ever asked that question, this message is for you. The answer is yes — and it's not a vague, distant yes. It's personal, specific, and it has a name.

You Are Not a Number to God

In a world that often treats people like data points — a customer ID, a follower count, a case file — Scripture insists on something radically different.

"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." — Matthew 10:29-31

Think about that for a second. Not just you — your hairs are numbered. That's not poetic exaggeration. That's the picture the Bible paints of a God who isn't managing humanity from a distance, but who is intimately, specifically aware of you— your name, your face, your story, your pain.

A Love That Chases You Down

There's a story Jesus told that has comforted broken people for two thousand years — the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). A younger son demands his inheritance early, essentially telling his father, "I wish you were dead so I could have my share now." He takes the money, leaves home, and burns through everything on reckless living. When the money runs out, so do his friends. He ends up feeding pigs — about as low as a Jewish man in that culture could fall — and realizes even his father's servants eat better than he does.

He rehearses an apology, expecting to come home in shame, hoping only to be hired as a servant. But here's the detail that changes everything:

"But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." — Luke 15:20

The father didn't wait at the door with arms crossed. He was watching for him. And when he saw him, he ran — something dignified men in that culture simply didn't do. He didn't wait for the apology to finish. He didn't make his son grovel. He just ran, and embraced him, and celebrated.

That is who God is. Not a distant judge waiting to catch you failing, but a Father scanning the horizon, hoping for the moment you turn around.

He Sees the Ones Everyone Else Overlooks

In John 4, Jesus meets a woman at a well in Samaria — a woman who, because of her past (five failed marriages and a man she wasn't married to), came to draw water alone at noon, the hottest part of the day, specifically to avoid the other women who came in the cool of morning. She was used to being avoided, judged, whispered about.

Jesus, a Jewish rabbi, wasn't even supposed to speak to a Samaritan, let alone a Samaritan woman with her reputation. But He sat down, looked her in the eyes, and spoke to her like she mattered — because she did.

"Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." — John 4:14

He didn't lead with her shame. He led with an offer. That's the pattern of God's love throughout Scripture — He moves toward the overlooked, the ashamed, the exhausted, before they've cleaned themselves up.

When Life Feels Like Too Much

Maybe you're not doubting whether God exists — you're wondering whether He actually cares about what you're going through right now. The Bible doesn't ask you to pretend the pain isn't real.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." — 1 Peter 5:7

Notice — it doesn't say "cast your anxiety on Him because He's powerful" or "because He's in control," though both are true. It says because He cares. Your pain isn't an inconvenience to God. It's the very thing that draws Him close.

The Ultimate Proof

Here's the deepest evidence of God's love — not a feeling, not a promise alone, but an action:

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." — Romans 5:8

Not after we cleaned up. Not once we deserved it. While we were still far from Him — still angry, still addicted, still ashamed, still running — Christ died. That's not a love that waits for you to earn it. That's a love that already paid for you before you turned around.

You Are Invited — Today

Whatever has convinced you that you're too far gone, too broken, too late, too messed up — Scripture says otherwise:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

Not "come to me once you've fixed yourself." Come as you are. Weary. Burdened. Uncertain. That's the invitation.
